ALARM TESTING PROCEDURE (RS2000 FITTED WITH THE FORD SAFEGUARD)
Ford alarms
have a built in self test. This test checks the operation of all the switches
and the horn.
Each of the front door barrels and the boot barrel has a switch that
automatically activates and deactivates the alarm when locking and unlocking the
car.
Every door including the boot/tailgate has a micro switch attached to the catch
that detects when the door / boot is opened.
1. Lift the bonnet
2. Depress and release the bonnet alarm switch 8 times in quick succession
3. The alarm horn should bleep/indicator lights will flash
4. This indicates the alarm is in self test mode
5. Open and close each door in turn, each action should cause the horn to bleep
6. Lock and unlock each front door using the key, each action should cause the
horn to bleep once or twice
7. Turn the ignition on, this should cause the horn to bleep
8. Holding the boot lid down, unlock the boot using the key and hold the key in
the unlock position, this should cause the horn to bleep
9. Still holding the key in the unlock position, lift the boot lid, this should
cause the horn to bleep
There is a time limit to carry out these instruction, should the horn bleep
without any action being taken then the alarm has exited the self test mode and
should be re-activated by carrying out step 2 above. If the bonnet switch will
not activate the self test mode then any door can be used to set the car in the
self test mode, simply by opening and shutting the door very quickly.
Should the horn not bleep for any of these actions then the switch involved is
probably at fault.
i.e. If the car has entered the self test mode OK, but the horn bleeps when all
the doors are opened except the n/s/r door then the n/s/r door catch micro
switch is at fault. Or if the alarm bleeps when the o/s door is locked but not
unlocked then the door barrel switch is at fault.
